Summary:Withdrawal of water and oil has caused a pattern of earth movement in the Houtson-Galveston, Texas, area. Detection has been made possible through the repeated surveying of a specially designed geodetic leveling network. Differences in heights between epochs were determined from the results of least-square adjustments. The special design of this network and comparisons of subsidence between the 1973-78 and 1978-83 epochs are discussed.—Modified journal abstract.
