Summary:This report is a preliminary investigation of the geology and hydrology of a 2,200 km2 area surrounding a potential nuclear-waste disposal site near Yucca Mountain, Nevada. The study area is underlain by 1,200 to 3,000 m of Tertiary volcanic rocks that thin southward beneath Quaternary cover. Regional groundwater flow is generally to the south, toward discharge areas in the Amargosa Desert.
