Summary:Radionuclides detected in groundwater from aquifers at this site are associated with the colloidal fraction of the groundwater. The 240Pu/239Pu ratio of these samples indicates that an underground nuclear test 1.3 km N of the sample collection site was the origin of the Pu. The extent of radionuclide migration may thus have been significantly underestimated in previous models of radionuclide transport, and the implications for the containment of radwaste are discussed.
