Summary:Environmental Quality Standards for groundwater pollution was established by the Environment Agency in March 1997. And then the report on EQS of the national board of environmental affairs was published. The report said that local governments tried to locate some monitoring points, which were indexes for their evaluation of the attainment of EQS in a region. Niigata Prefectural Government investigated location of monitoring points of groundwater pollution from 1998 to 2001. We located monitoring points in the following areas. 1: The area where the factory using regulated substances exit. 2: The area where groundwater pollution is occurred immediately. 3: The area where groundwater is used for drinking and water supply. 4: The area where we observed groundwater pollution in the past. As a result of this investigation, we located 211 monitoring points in 31 regions.
